Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities
Tops day Nursery Gillingham aims to provide nursery education, after school and holiday club. Some children will join the nursery with an unrecognised and undiagnosed special educational need, we will work together with parents to ensure these needs are identified and that each child is provided with support by the appropriate specialist agencies. We are often the first people to have close contact with a child besides the family, and we will listen and support parents through their child’s special educational learning. We welcome children with special educational needs and disabilities. Your child will be supported and encouraged by the nursery and where necessary outside agencies such as speech therapists, portage or occupational health. Each child has a key person who will work closely with your child however in the absence of their key worker a spare key system is in place. We use Eylog to provide you with a comprehensive view of your child’s development. Discussions with you and your child will take place with your child's key person and the settings Special educational needs coordinators who are Daniella Wright and Anna Cain. Both receive on going in-depth training in many aspects of supporting a child with SEND. We endeavour to work closely with local schools in order to provide a smooth transition when their journey with us comes to an end. We welcome visits to look around the Nursery where we can introduce you to the staff and answer any questions you may have.
