Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities
We welcome all children at Sturminster Marshall Pre-school. Our single storey building is fully accessible via a ramp and has a large accessible toilet and changing area. Additional funding is available for specialist equipment, resources or additional staffing to support a child's additional needs, considered on an individual basis. We seek advice and support from other services and professionals to ensure the best advice is gained to meet the child’s needs. The impact of additional support is monitored through on going assessment in learning and development and the child's general well-being. We work closely with the child's family, developing a partnership to keep them up-to-date and to best support their child’s needs. All practitioners are qualified to a minimum level 3 in childcare and have inclusion training. Two are trained as Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators. We ensure all practitioners have a thorough up-to-date understanding of child development and attend further training regularly, always supporting the needs of the children attending. For new children previously identified as having additional needs before they join our setting, we will work with the established team, for a smooth transition process. Alternatively, our assessment process of observation, assessment and planning will evidence where there is need for additional support. We plan for either early years next steps or as an Individual Plan, so realistic and achievable learning goals can be reached. Activities provided will be gauged at the correct level for the child, and reflect the needs of the child, through free-play or group activity.
