We look to foster independence and empower children; therefore, we involve them in the daily routines of the setting. We believe that this helps them to take responsibility and feel secure in their role as helpful members of our community.

Other Facilities
I have experience in working with children with a variety of Special Educational Needs, including children with global developmental delay and Autism Spectral Disorder (ASD). My assistant and I have completed additional training to make our setting hearing friendly and have experience in this area, supporting a child with hearing loss in our setting. We regularly audit our setting and make necessary adjustments to best support the children in our care and have recently added a quiet corner with soft furnishings to minimise background noise and promote calm in response.

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities

We value the individuality of all children and are committed to giving them opportunity to achieve their full potential. We are committed to actively removing barriers to learning and participation within our childminding setting and have previous experience of supporting children with a variety of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including global developmental delay, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and hearing loss. Providing it is safe to do so, all children are given the opportunity to use all the toys and experiences on offer in our setting - this may involve some reasonable adjustments to ensure accessibility by all children. We will observe and monitor individual children’s progress and share with parents/carers following the Assess, Plan, Do and Review cycle. Where either a child appears not to be making progress generally or in a specific area of learning, we will discuss our observations and any proposed plans with the parents/carers. We will always include the voice of the child in any arrangements and work closely with parents/carers and other agencies, where appropriate, to ensure individual children’s needs are met including writing any Action Plan with targets, Individual Care Plan (ICP), contributing to an Education Heath Care plan (EHC) if necessary and writing any Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEP). We will not discriminate directly or indirectly to children and their families and will challenge any anti-discriminatory language or behaviour by children or adults and explain why this is unacceptable because the achievements, attitudes and well-being of all children matter. We regularly monitor the effectiveness of inclusive practices, record keeping, risk assessments and experiences offered to ensure that these procedures are up to date, and the children’s individual needs are being met.
