Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities

Corfe Castle Pre-School and Kids Club have high aspirations for our SEND children. We ensure they are included in everything our setting offers, and we make adaptations accordingly. We focus on what our children can achieve and where they need support, rather than what they are unable to do. We offer taster sessions on a Wednesday morning, an annual open day, we are open from 8-5.30, our Special Education Needs Coordinator is Mo Viney. Weekly activities include PE, cooking, yoga, gardening and walks in our environment. We have previously supported children with autism, speech and language delay, cerebral palsy, and delayed development. We offer a multi-agency approach to supporting children by working with our partner agencies. We offer a child-based teaching practice, adapted to each individual. Our facilities are fully accessible. Each child has a named key worker who will support their learning and development. We write an individual plan for each child to ensure regular progress and targeted support. We carry out a 2-year check, and have carried out Educational Health and Care plans, speech and language referrals, and have accessed additional funding to and provide one to one care. Staff have had the following training to support our SEND children: Health and safety training, Risk assessment training, Epi pen training, Seizure training, Paediatric first aid training, Moving and handling training, Speech and language training, SENCO training, refresher and network meetings, Picture exchange communication system training for speech and language support, Managing behaviour training, Bereavement training, Sign language, and PEIC-D – early interactive conversation training. We pride ourselves in being an inclusive community where all children can flourish.
