Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities
We aim to be a fully inclusive setting and welcome enquiries from parents and carers of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. We are very much a learning through play setting. Each child is treated as an individual, and I pride myself on knowing each child well, and so know what stage of development they are at, and what their next steps are. I monitor this in several ways: I complete a daily diary, and have trackers and termly assessments - these are always linked back to the EYFS to show what stage of development they have reached, in addition to a 2-year check which details if the child is meeting their milestones. This guides my planning of activities, and allows me to see if a child is not achieving what they are expected to be at their age. This approach allowed me to identify that a child was behind with his speaking and understanding. After speaking to the child''s parent, I was able to work in partnership with the child''s health visitor to refer him for speech and language therapy. I always work in partnership with parents and outside agencies and professionals to ensure your child receives any support they may need. I have undertaken courses on Practical Inclusion and Role of the SENCo. These courses have enabled me to ensure all activities are suitable for all children present, by adapting the activity if necessary.
