Additional Information

Stepping stones pre-school is a friendly group run by a committee of volunteers. It has excellent links to the community and local schools. Sessions are fun and include a wide range of activities all geared to the development of each individual child. Parents can use their early education funding entitlement at any time during opening hours. Provision has an inclusion / equal opportunities policy. Please note that a place in a school nursery does not guarantee admission to the school on site. Parents/carers must apply for a place at the school if you want your child to transfer to the school’s reception class. See www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/school-admissions for more information and to apply for your reception class.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities

We have a well-trained Senco and deputy. Currently we are supporting children who need support to develop their speech and language. This ranges from children who start with no language, who need support with the development of certain sounds or missing elements and children who have English as a second language. We use the narrative pack in small groups to support their development. We are working with Portage to support children who may be on the Autistic Spectrum Disorder or need support at home and in the setting to make good outcomes. We are also working with children to develop their core and fine muscles to help their physical development and develop their pencil grip. In the past we have had children with severe allergies and have epi pen training. We make referrals with the permission of parents to SALT (Speech and Language Therapy) and to the health visitor team. Parents can assess the drop in sessions at the school to get support for any issues that they need extra support with. We will try to get information and support for all children. We like it if you come in for a visit and discus your individual needs so that we can both ask questions to better understand your child's need.
