Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Local Offer

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities

We have very good support resources and screening materials to ensure that the needs of children are quickly identified. In addition, we have an HLTA who holds the Diploma in Teaching Children with Dyslexia and other Specific Learning difficulties. We also have access to the Dorset SENSS team and other support services. We are able to offer precisely tailored teaching to support children with SEND. Our staff are experienced and our school numbers are low meaning we can deploy staff very effectively. We offer a fully inclusive curriculum specifically written for our school. The needs of all children are catered for and those requiring additional support are attended to in a sympathetic, positive and supportive way. All children with special educational needs have an IEP (Individual Education Plan) and this is written by teachers, shared with parents and the child and reviewed each term. The targets on this plan are measurable and designed to ensure that SEN children make better than average progress. We pride ourselves on having a school that offers great pastoral support for all children in a friendly and inclusive environment. Ongoing in-house training for all teachers and TAs and specialist TA courses and additional intervention as required (eg Maths Count on course). We are able to offer a level site in the majority of school rooms. The site is fully accessible for the current children. Parents are fully involved in all decisions at all times and are regularly updated.
