Additional Information
Our Audiology service covers West Dorset. We have good links with and work alongside the Dorset Hearing Support Service. When a young person turns 18, we will arrange their next routine appointment with an audiologist from our adult service. Once a young person leaves full-time education we will write to them giving them information on how to access the adult audiology service when they need to. They will automatically be given an initial appointment and the care they will receive will be the same, but the location and specialists they see may change. The adult audiology service will still provide regular aftercare.
Referral information
Professional referral required from specific agencies including GPs, Hospital Consultants (including Ear, Nose & Throat and Paediatrics), the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme, Health Visitors, School Nurses and Speech and Language Therapists. Initial appointment sent on receipt of referral letter/form. Follow-up appointments booked as required. We aim to see all new referrals within 6 weeks and to provide hearing aids within 4 weeks of identifying the need for them. Appointments may take place in our paediatric test room within the Audiology Department at Dorset County Hospital (DCH) or in the Audiology room at the Children’s Centre on the DCH site.
