Our service is for patients aged 8 and above with a sports injury, orthopaedic or musculoskeletal conditions (e.g. after a fracture or sprain). We will assess, advise and carry out an appropriate course of treatment (related to clinical need) with the approach being, one of self-management, advice and education aimed at improving: • mobility and function • Pain control • Exercise • Healthy lifestyle advice.

Additional Information
The Musculoskeletal Outpatients Physiotherapy department at Bridport Community Hospital covers Bridport and the surrounding area. The service is available for children aged 8 and above. We’re not available at the weekend but there is an out of hours answer machine available 24 hours a day. We provide an out-patients physiotherapy setting offering musculoskeletal, women’s health, and rehabilitation following surgery.
Referral information
Professional referrals from Dorset GPs, consultants and other healthcare professionals for patients registered in Dorset. Referrals are sent to the physiotherapy department who then contact the patient directly via phone or letter depending on the urgency of the condition. At the first appointment a thorough examination is carried out and joint physiotherapy goals are set with the patient. Simple musculoskeletal / orthopaedic conditions only. (Complex musculoskeletal conditions / developmental conditions to be referred to Poole Hospital specialist paediatric service). Excludes: Neurological, respiratory, amputees, developmental.

Support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities
As appropriate the carer is involved in all aspects of the process. staff are required to complete mandatory training in safeguarding, adults and children level 2. Any child/young adult can request an adult to be with them during consultation, if they wish to support transition. Most patients will be seen in individual clinic rooms.
