Forde Abbey is a beacon of elegant antiquity, set within the exquisite countryside of Dorset. Built almost 900 years ago by Cistercian monks, the Abbey still embodies the serenity and philosophy of the order who lived, prayed and farmed here. Forde Abbey is a beautiful former Cistercian monastery and has been a family home since 1649. It is surrounded by 30 acres of award-winning gardens. The informal layout of the gardens at Forde Abbey means there are lots of hidden places for children to explore. The wide lawns give plenty of opportunity for using up excess energy and the ducks, chickens, swans, and fish are also able to entertain our visitors. Visit website for further information about the grounds. For the trail: follow the trail around the garden to find the hidden boxes and stamps to mark the trail map. Based on the famous Dartmoor letterboxes, there is a prize draw for completed trails at the end of the season.

Wheelchair accessible
Main entrance is mostly level with small ledges at doorways. These do not impede wheelchairs or frames. House is spread over two floors with no wheelchair access to the upper floor.
Parking availability information
Ample free parking within the grounds with dedicated disabled parking spaces 10m from the entrance.
Toilet facility information
Accessible unisex toilets available approximately 100 metres from the main entrance along mostly level loose gravel and tarmac paths. There is one steeply sloped area negotiable by wheelchairs.
