Arbour House College

Arbour House College is an independent specialist college for young people over the age of 16 years with complex social and communication needs including ASD, SLD and MLD. We educate our students using TEACCH principles. This requires an instructional methodology that emphasizes the application of knowledge and skills in reality contexts. The emphasis is on teaching age-appropriate skills that are immediately applicable to diverse life settings. The skills will be practiced within the students’ home, college, work and community environment. This assessment identifies learning goals and objectives which are then taught through real and simulated instructional experiences. We offer a curriculum that prepares students for adulthood through an appropriate assessed route to independence. We use the ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ framework pathways of Good Health, Employment, Independent living and housing and Friends, relationships & community. Functional skills are practical skills in English,
